The Australia Nepal Friendship Society (ANFS) is a Canberra based not-for profit and non-political organisation.  The ANFS was founded in 1982 by a group of Canberrans and Nepali students studying at the Australian National University.  ANFS was established to support the small number of Nepali students coming to Canberra for university studies.   

The objectives of the ANFS are

  • to promote friendship, understanding and goodwill between the people of Australia and Nepal; and,
  • to promote the welfare of its members. 

Membership of the Society is open to any person who, irrespective of race, political or religious affiliation, agrees to the objectives of the ANFS.

Brief News

  • Donation to Chepang Community School and Blind School: -
    ANFS members had organised a BBQ program to raise fund for the Chepang Community School located in Chitwan District of Nepal. Part of the fund was also collected during last AGM where our members also donated to that school.
    The fund collected by donation from chairman of Senior Chautari Club Mr Govinda Adhikari and part from deusi-vailo played last year was donated to Blind School located in Kaski District in the western part of Nepal.
 
  • Hamro Pathshala (Nepali Language School): -
    Hamro Pathshala, the Nepali Language School, was officially opened on 30 July 2011 at Theo Notoras Multicultural Building in Canberra city. Since them it is running smoothly. ANFS express it’s sincere thanks to all the members including Dr Binod Nepal, Mr Pradip Adhikari and Dr Kishor Baidya for their hard effort to establish the school.
 
  • Dashain Celebration: -
    ANFS had organised the Dashain celebration party on 1st of October 2011 at Western Creek Community Centre. Most of the ANFS members, non-members and diplomats from Nepalese Embassy and Australian Government attended the party. Several traditional and modern Nepalese dances were presented and delicious foods were served during the celebration.
 
  • Tihar Celebration: -
    We celebrated Tihar, Nepalese’s second greatest festival, on 29th Oct 2011 by playing Deusi-Vailo among our members and community. Deusi-Vailo program was played in the four different spots which were fixed on the basis of family’s interest and location.
 
  • Multicultural Festival: -
    ANFS participated in the ACT multicultural festival representing our community on 11th Feb 2012. We presented our cultural dances on the stage. As a MC of our program, Mrs Puspa KC nicely provided information on our society and Nepalese culture. Group of our Kids from Hamro Pathsala sang the Nepali song in the program. Nepali cultural dances were performed by our dancers Sangita Bista, Samjana Sapkota, Gyatri Silwal and Bigya Thapa. Nepali food stall by Surya Maharjan from Taste of Himalaya provided typical Nepalese foods during the festival on the behalf of ANFS
